The partnership with Einride will introduce a fleet of digitally optimized electric heavy-duty trucks and charging solutions across Paulig’s Swedish network. The largest shipments of Santa Maria products in the Gothenburg area, Sweden, cover a distance of 75,000 kilometers a year. It is estimated that the operations will save 15,9 tons of CO2e each year, an 87% reduction compared to previous shipments made using trucks powered by renewable fuel HVO100 and biogas.
“Today, one of the most efficient ways to reduce CO2e emissions of transport is electrification. There are many existing solutions in logistics, and the key is to act fast and make them happen. We’re very proud to take this step with Einride as this lowers our climate impact in logistics in Sweden, while maintaining the efficiency and reliability expected in the industry,” says Thomas Panteli, SVP Supply Chain & Sourcing at Paulig.
Starting in August, the first wave will see two trucks and five trailers operating on Swedish roads. Einride’s digital freight platform will optimize the operations and the charging solution will power the fleet, ensuring that the beloved Santa Maria products are delivered more sustainably between Paulig’s customers, factories, warehouses and the port of Gothenburg in western Sweden.

On the road to electrifying all shipments
Paulig is an international company that operates in 13 countries and has production facilities and warehouses in six countries including Finland, Sweden, Estonia, UK, Spain and Belgium. Logistics constitutes about 4% of Paulig's emissions within the value chain. While this percentage may seem modest, logistics represents a crucial area where numerous solutions are available to reduce emissions.
“Acting swiftly in these areas is imperative. Electrifying our shipments not only benefits the environment but also aligns with our commitment to delivering quality products more sustainably. We’re right now reviewing the logistics flows to see how we shall reach our ambition of electrifying all shipments, long and short distance haulage, from our factories and warehouses in the coming years,“ says Thomas Panteli.
Paulig is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from its value chain and by 80% from its own operations in absolute terms by 2030 from the 2018 baseline. These science-based climate targets are approved by the Science Based Target initiative and are aligned with the Paris agreement 1.5C ambition.
