  • Today is 🌎 👫 Human Rights Day!

Human Rights Day is important to us because one of the most common sustainability risks in the food sector is related to human rights such as forced or child labour, and labour rights such as fair remuneration and working hours. Our long-term relationships with suppliers help us to understand the human rights risks and other sustainability issues in our supply chains better.

This requires systematic, long-term work. How have implemented it in our work recently❓

✔️In 2024, we conducted in-depth human rights impact assessments in Thailand as part of our human rights work, working with local and international human rights experts from KPMG.

✔️We have several contract manufacturing suppliers in Thailand, and we have identified that the majority of them employ migrant workers from the neighbouring countries of Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.

✔️The purpose of this pilot was to conduct a human rights deep dive to assess actual and potential adverse impacts, but most importantly, to listen to and give a voice to those rarely heard - the migrant workers themselves.

✔️Before the actual assessment visits, we reached out to international organisations and had discussions with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) representatives in Thailand on topics faced by migrant workers.

✔️Both of our suppliers respect the principles of responsible recruitment, including the Employer Pays Principle. This enables migrant workers to start their employment without debt and additionally, there is more income available for living when documents need to be renewed over time by the employer.

✔️Building strong collaborative relations with our suppliers is essential. Increasing knowledge and building capacity on human rights for our suppliers is something we continue to build on also in the future with other partnering organisations.

✔️ The collaboration provides us with a solid framework to continue developing our work.
